A Few of Our Everyday Heroes
By Carla Thomas
In these sometimes
difficult times, the news rarely brings us reports of those
things, those good things, our everyday heroes do for the
community. We hear about conflict, violence, confrontations
and increasingly, racial strife, especially considering our
current political situation.
We’ve taken an old adage
“driving while black” and adapted it to fit the current
series of confrontations. One can barely turn on the news or
scroll social media without finding a story of a black
person being detained and questioned by police for
barbequing “while black,” selling lemonade “while black,” or
simply cutting their own d@#n grass “while black.” |

Undaunted, most of our
citizens continue to live productive lives “while black.”
Here are a few of our everyday heroes who use their skills
and training to make a positive impact on their communities.
Meet
Battalion Chief David Hitt;
Dr. Michael Stubblefield;
Real Estate Broker Emory Whittington, III and
Detective Brandon Harrison who, in their professional
capacities, are working, thriving, serving, and giving
“while black.”
