Then came the politics as
a panel comprised of Mayor Paula Hicks-Hudson and four City
Council Members – District 1’s Tyrone Riley, District 4’s
Yvonne Harper and At-Large Reps Larry Sykes and Kurt Young –
addressed issues of concern to voters. The mayor, Sykes and
Young are on the ballot in this year’s elections.
After brief addresses by
the members of the panel, the audience posed questions on
topics ranging from crime, to job creation, to voter
suppression, to drinking water safety, among others. The
spirited discussion offered the elected officials an
opportunity to display their grasp of a range of pressing
issues – and display they did.
The officials took turns
not only presenting their own individual concerns and
solutions to problems but also praising the other panelists’
efforts at uncovering ways to improve life for Toledo
residents.
Harris took over the final
hour of the event regaling the audience with her enthusiasm
and vocal stylings.
Pancakes, Politics & Jazz
