Statement from the Lucas County Democratic Party
Tom Waniewski is trying to portray himself as a consensus
building candidate, but the facts are he is bringing the
most extreme, reactionary views to the Mayor’s race we’ve
seen in recent history.
In his unsuccessful bid for State Senate in 2010, he
campaigned on the proposal to cut state social services - he
named Youth Services and Jobs and Family Services as being
specific targets. Then, in 2011 he supported Ohio Senate
Bill 5 which would have stripped collective bargaining
rights from those very same employees whose jobs he would
eliminate. Now he supports right-to-work measures! In this
great City, where auto workers, public employees,
construction tradesmen, and those in foodservice and retail
rely on the ability to collectively bargain for terms and
conditions of employment and living wages, Tom Waniewski’s
support for obliterating that ability is most certainly not
in line with the best interests of Toledoans.
Sadly, this is normal for Mr. Waniewski and his friend Wade
Kapszukiewicz. Both intend to gut city services, outsource
work, and hamstring departments that provide necessary,
daily services to the people of the City of Toledo. Neither
has any regard for the men and women whose jobs they so
casually propose eliminating In reality, Tom and Wade are
proposing long lines, unanswered calls from city
departments, delayed responses for service, overburdened
city workers in potentially unsafe working conditions, and
at the end of the day a negative impact on Toledoans.
It is clear that the only candidate for Mayor of the City of
Toledo who will really build consensus and continue to look
out for the working men and women of this City is Mayor
Paula HIcks-Hudson. Mayor Paula Hicks-Hudson has created
and/or retained over 9,000 jobs, kept our drinking water
safe, and added a class of new police officers. Finally,
Mr. Kapszukiewicz best summarized the state of Toledo in May
of this year when he said “there is so much positive
happening in the city of Toledo.”
