Local Women to Celebrate Winning the Vote

To commemorate Women’s Equality Day, UAW Local 12 Women’s Committee, Women of Toledo and AAUW/Toledo sponsor a day of celebration.

On Saturday, August 26, 2017,  10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. at the UAW Local 12 Union Hall, 2300 Ashland Ave,  Women’s Equality Day Celebration dedicated to the strengthening the voices of all people to work toward equality.  The family friendly celebration will have food and other vendors, performances and free entertainment for all ages.  Dress to present your version of Rosie the Riveter in our “Essence of Rosie” Contest to win fabulous prizes.  The event will kick off with a rally, Teresa Fedor and other local dignitaries will speak on the issue of women’s equality.

On this date in 1920, the Nineteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution was passed, securing women’s right to vote.  By a joint resolution of Congress on August 26, 1971, the first Women’s Equality Day was celebrated in NY.  And every year since, Women’s Equality Day not only commemorates the passage of the 19th Amendment, but also calls attention to women’s continuing efforts toward full equality, continued support for the passage of the Equal Rights Amendment, funding for Title IX and Equal Pay legislation.
