On December 13, 2014, members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority,
Incorporated®, Zeta Alpha Omega Chapter held a festive
holiday luncheon at the Kent Branch Library following their
monthly chapter meeting. Members enjoyed Christmas music,
fellowship and a delicious lunch including the famous “green
cake” prepared by Vice President Margaret Huntley.
The Zeta Alpha Omega Chapter was chartered in
Toledo, Ohio on April 25, 1952 in the home of Reba Harris.
Charter members Helen Cohen and Anna Marie Bolden are still
active in the chapter. The chapter hosted a fall fundraiser
held at Holland Gardens with proceeds to benefit
scholarships to local high school seniors and community
service endeavors.
Chapter leadership includes President Katina
Johnson and Vice President Margaret Huntley. Zeta Alpha
Omega is a graduate chapter and supervises two undergraduate
chapters—Iota Iota at Bowling Green State University and
Alpha Lambda at the University of Toledo. Danielle Avery
and Richelle Watkins are the graduate advisors,
respectively.
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® was founded on
January 15, 1908 on the campus of Howard University. This
year marks 107 years of sisterhood and service. In July
2014 the organization installed Dorothy Buckhanan Wilson as
international president who will lead 60,000 members
worldwide.
The 2014-2018 International Programs, “Launching New
Dimensions of Service”, includes Target 1- Educational
Enrichment- Target 2-Health Promotion, Target 3-Family
Strengthening, Target 4-Enviornmental Ownership and Target
