Councilman Tyrone Riley is
ready to start his campaign for a third term as the city’s
District 1 representative. Last weekend, the councilman was
joined by about 40 of his friends and allies for an
organizing breakfast meeting at Michael’s Restaurant on
Monroe Street.
“I started this because
most of us have common interests and common goals,” said
Riley as he opened his remarks. “We’re not finished yet.”
Riley went on to detail
the efforts his office has undertaken to improve the lives
of residents in his district and in the city as a whole –
the cleanup of the Champion Sparkplug site, the repair of
Bancroft Street, for example. He also pointed to those
things that he feels need continued attention, such as
education, the proliferation of neighborhood businesses –
such as “Dollar” stores –that take advantage of residents.
“They don’t add, they only take away.” He said.
