Lourdes University Offers Ava DuVernay´s 13th
Documentary showing is free and open to the public
On Thursday, January 12 at 7 p.m., Lourdes University offers
a free showing of 13th, an original
Netflix documentary directed by Ava DuVernay. A Critics
Choice Documentary Award winner, 13th
provides an in-depth look at the prison system in the United
States and how it reveals the nation´s history of racial
inequality. The documentary will be shown in the Franciscan
Center, 6832 Convent Blvd., in Sylvania.
The documentary showing is free and open to the public. A
discussion will follow.
"We are pleased to offer this poignant and relevant
documentary to our students and all citizens in the
northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan region. It is our hope
that the discussion promotes open dialogue on topics that
affect our society daily," says Rachel Duff Anderson, dean
of Student Life. The discussion will be moderated by Therese
Hoffman, Ph.D, Sociology & Justice Studies Professor. |
