Lorean Whitaker's 80th Birthday Celebration

By Tricia Hall
Sojourner’s Truth Reporter

Traditionally, birthdays are times of celebration and acknowledge … family and friends of Lorean Whitaker gathered to pay homage on her birthday on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at the Gesu banquet hall.

Whitaker was born on November 21, 1934 to parents Lovie May and Robert Quinn Sr. Then became a mother of four sons: Bruce, Cortney, Kim and Joe. She is also a grandmother and great-grandmother. Whitaker is an avid Scott High School Alumni Association member and has held different professional and volunteer positions in the social service field.

Festivities opened with music and dinner, memorial PowerPoint presentations, poetry and closing remarks.

"Bruce and I shared our birthdays, and this party was planned due to untimely deaths in our family,” said Lorean during closing remarks. “We rented the hall, hired catering, created the guest list, printed in invitations, and then Bruce's health declined. He was hospitalized for weeks and passed in September 2014. We weren't sure if the party should continue. I thank my family and friends for their support and remembering Bruce.”
