
Mecca Court’s 50th Annual Commandress Ball

Mecca Court No. 73 held its 51th Annual Commandress
Ball, Honoring Illustrious Commandress
Dt. Delores Bates, amid flowing gowns, gentlemen in tuxedos
and glamorous accessories, on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at
the Grand Plaza Hotel.
The court awards scholarships annually. This year the court was
able to award three scholarships – two traditional
scholarships from the “Charlesena Harrison Smith Scholarship
Foundation” and one non-traditional scholarship from the
“Gladys L. Mitchell Scholarship Fund.”
Mecca Court No. 73 is a women’s auxiliary of the Ancient Egyptian
Arabic Order Nobles Mystic Shrine of North and South America
and Its Jurisdictions Incorporated, Prince Hall Affiliation
with over 200 courts located in the United States, Canada,
Bahamas, Germany, Italy and Japan.
Mecca Court’s purpose is to practice charity and benevolence and
promote general welfare. The members also promote the
development of powerful leaders and career planning to area
youths and encourage health awareness in the community.
This year Mecca Court No. 73 was involved in a variety of community
service projects including proving supplies to the Cherry
Street Mission, the Heartland Nursing Home, Monroe Street
Methodist Church, ProMedica Children’s Hospital and Pickett
School, the Mott Branch Library Easter Egg Hunt and
preparing meals for families at Ronald McDonald House.
