Girl Scouts Honors Women of Distinction

Special to The Truth

Girl Scouts of Western Ohio announced the 2014 Women of Distinction award recipients:

• Dr. Anne Ruch, MD - SewHope, Inc.

• Martha Vetter – R/P Marketing Public Relations and Chicks for Charity

• Cecelia M. Adams, Ph.D – Toledo Board of Education

• Mary Ellen Mazey, Ph.D – Bowling Green State University

• Billie Johnson – Area Office on Aging of Northwest Ohio, Inc.

The Girl Scouts Women of Distinction Awards honor exceptional women who have made significant contributions in five key areas: Healthy Living; Financial Empowerment; Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math; Leadership; and Community Responsibility. Women are selected by a committee of their peers because of the difference they make in the community that impacts the future of girls. Recipients exemplify the Girl Scout mission by living with courage, confidence, and character, and making the world a better place.

“By honoring women that make significant contributions in these key areas, we are creating pathways for today’s girls to become tomorrow’s leaders,” said Erin McPartland, major gifts officer for Girl Scouts of Western Ohio, “For girls to succeed in a leadership role, they need to know there are women paving the way who open doors, create opportunities, and cheer them on. These women offer hope and inspiration. They’re positive role models for the next generation.”
