Kids Unlimited Academy (KUA), a second-year charter school
currently located at 2105 N. McCord Road will be hosting a
local Claire’s Day event at the School on May 16. Claire’s
Day is
northwest Ohio’s largest free family book festival that is
held in honor of Claire Lynsey Rubini, who passed away from
a heart condition in 2000 when she was just 10 years old.
Each year, an estimated 5,000 people enjoy participating in
variety of literary opportunities and experiences that
Claire most enjoyed including telling stories, dancing,
making crafts, and most of all, reading.
Claire’s Day, Inc. also helps to organize interactive
presentations and book signings at local schools by
Midwestern children’s book authors and illustrators. This
helps to provide an entertaining, experiential storytelling
that encourages students to use their imagination, enjoy
literature, and to pursue reading as a regular activity, as
well as, providing an overview of the creative process and
the process of publishing a children’s book, so children
understand how a book arrives completed in their hands. Kids
Unlimited Academy is excited to have illustrator Barry Gott
visit the school on this day. Some of Gott’s books include:
Dino-Baseball, Dino-Basketball, Dino-Football and
many more.
Additionally, KUA’s very own Brynasha White was named as a
winner of a C.A.R.E. Award. (Claire’s Awards for Reading
Excellence (C.A.R.E. Awards) and she will be honored at the
Maumee Library on Saturday, May 17. A spokesman for KUA
stated, “Reading at an early age is so critical for our
students, we are always looking for new ways to keep reading
exciting for them. I’m confident we will be continuing this
event at our school for many years to come.” |
