According to the Diocese the honorees “openly and actively,
support social justice causes, call for peace where there is
conflict, serve the community and strive for racial
equality.”
“Today, it was an awesome lifetime achievement and honor to
receive the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s 2021 Drum Major
Award. Dr. King, was the Drum Major for justice; he was the
Drum Major for peace; and he was the Drum Major for
righteousness; Dr. King was also the moral compass of a
nation. I am so honored to receive this award in
representation of Dr. King and what he stood for,” said
Mack.
“As the leader of the Toledo Buffalo Soldiers, I receive
this awesome honor, standing on the shoulders of our members
as well as the shoulders of our supporters. Your unwavering
commitment and dedication to peace and enhancing the quality
of life for children and their families in the communities
we serve, is the reason for this recognition.”
Madison spoke of the Word the Toledo Diocese, Bishop Thomas
delivered before the ceremony. “His message was simple yet
profound. He said, ‘during these times of a pandemic, civil
unrest and political chaos, we should hear with our ears but
listen with our heart, we should look with our eyes but see
with our mind and soul.’ That really struck a chord with me!
We should all strive to apply those principles as we
continue in the work of serving our community.
The Bishop had a special blessing and encouraging words of
gratitude for each of us!
