The Toledo NAACP organized an installation service on January 4 for the incoming 2021 officers and special recognition for the out-going president Ray Wood. At least two dozen individuals attended the event at the UAW Local 12 hall as social distancing, temperature checks and face masks safety protocols were in place for this event.

Rev. Otis Gordon, pastor of Warren AME Church, delivered a heartfelt opening and closing prayer. “I personally appreciate your leadership Ray, in the NAACP and city of Toledo.”

The program continued with individuals presenting token of appreciation to the out-going president of Toledo NAACP, Ray Wood. Newly appointed Toledo City Council members Cerssandra McPherson and Vanice Williams presented Wood with an official proclamation. “He is a faithful and just man. Thank you for your service. This proclamation is to honor the outgoing president Ray Wood and was signed by all city council members,” explained McPherson.

Whenever the city needed him, Ray was dedicated o the city and was present. This is just a small token of appreciation,” said Mayor Kapszukiewicz.

“I love you all so much, Toledo has assembled a great board and Pastor Perryman will take this organization to another level,” shared Wood while addressing the NAACP membership

.

The second half of the program was the incoming 2021 Toledo NAACP officer installation service which was presided over by Judge Myron Duhart. The five executive board members raised their right hands and repeated the oath of office, which specifically mentioned portions of the NAACP purpose, mission, vision and focus which includes, in part, to eliminate race-based prejudice, address racial discrimination barriers, work to secure civil rights and seek the elimination of racism.

“2020 was an epic event, filled with social unrest and we’re still not done with COVID. I am reminded how much further we have to go. In the words of the late Congressman John Lewis, an icon in the movement. We the membership of Toledo NAACP have to get into some good trouble,” shared Judge Duhart during closing remarks.
