Toledo Public Schools Close for Three Weeks, Continue In-Home Instruction for Students

As of Monday, March16, Toledo Public Schools, and all Ohio schools, will be closed for three weeks, as per Governor Mike DeWine’s orders, to limit the damage from coronavirus. Nevertheless, students will be provided in-home assignments during the closure and will also have the opportunity to be provided with free breakfast and lunch during each school day.

During a news conference on Friday, March 13 – the last day of in-school instruction – Superintendent Romules Durant, Deputy Superintendents Jim Gault and Jim Gant, explained the process they have instituted for each student to keep up with class instruction and maintain the free meal.


On Friday, students were given five days worth of assignments to be completed at home in Blizzard Bags. The assignments are to be completed at home and will be graded. On Monday, March 16, staff and faculty will report and complete an addition 10 days’ worth of Blizzard Bag assignments that students are expected to pick up on March 23 at schools from 10 a.m to 1 p.m.

Additional supplemental materials be grade level will be accessible on www.tps.org.

Students enrolled in APEX learning, iReady and Lexia may access their curricula at www.tps.org.

During the mandated closing period, all schools will be open at least two days per week, for two-hour blocks, for students and families to come and pick up curricula. Additional information can be accessed by calling 419-671-0001 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Meals will also be provided.

Starting, Wednesday, March 18, designated buildings – the TPS high schools – will be open for meal distribution – pick up ‘grab and go’ – breakfast and lunches – from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Parents and guardians should call the United Way of Greater Toledo 2-1-1 line at least 48 hours to confirm the dates.
