Seniors Gather to Celebrate MLK

The J. Frank Troy Senior Center, in partnership with Neighborhood Health Association (NHA), organized an evening activity for seniors on January 23. This event was organized because the center was originally closed on the day that officially recognizes Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Twenty attendees enjoyed games, socializing, music and the food that was prepared by Ruby’s Kitchen. “I first visited the senior center seven years ago when my sister brought me, and I’ve been coming ever since. I love it here, it’s a wonderful place to socialize with people that are my age. This is a great place for seniors,” explained Cynthia Harrison.

The evening concluded with the certificate of appreciation presented by NHA to seven seniors for their service to the center and community. The recipients were: Prentiss Anderson, Delbert Duckins, Victory Perry, Luther Reasonover, Margaret Toodvin, James Williams and Walter Woodson.

“We wanted to offer extended hours and provide a way to celebrates Dr. King’s memory. We have so many seniors that contribute to the community and this center,” explained Tonda Wiles Koszycki, NHA manager of senior services.

J. Frank Troy Senior Center is located at 545 Indiana Ave in Toledo and operates weekdays from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
