Going for the Gold

The Area Office on Aging, The Toledo Area TMCA and Taylor
Kia are asking athletes, aged 50 or older, to go for the
gold in an Olympic event on September 14 at the Wolf Creek
YMCA. The 50 plus Sports Classic is a one-day event that
gather athletes age 50 or better who are competitive as well
as those who just want to get some exercise and have some
fun with their peers.

Over 200 athletes will participate in the Sports Classic.
The event kicks off at 9 a.m. with the Opening Ceremony –
the carrying of the torch, the lighting of the cauldron and
singing of the National Anthem. The Classic consists of
people participating with their peers in five age groupings,
in the following sports: track and field, swimming,
pickleball, softball, archery, table tennis, tennis,
basketball foul shooting, 3 on 3 basketball, volleyball,
golf, bowling fun walk and cycling.
“If you are 50 plus years, you can come to this event –
athlete or not – and have fun with your friends,” said Bill
Harris, chairman of the board of the Area Office on Aging
during the announcement on August 21.
Registration is $30 and includes a t-shirt, boxed lunch and
participation in as many of the sports as wanted.
