Over 70 youngsters
participated in the two-day event and they were assisted,
coached and taught by over 20 adult volunteers.
The volunteers and guest
speakers include Brandon Copeland, jujitsu instructor and
motivational speaker; Debra Sue, Glass City Talent Agency;
Dennis Hopson, NBA champ and all-time leading scorer at The
Ohio State University, Big Trice of City Park Basketball
League and Jodie Summers, poet and author, among others.
Volunteers included coaches Glandoy Hill, Anthony Amison,
Bruce Orr and Marcus Elliott Sr. Catering was provided by
Savannahs Soul Kitchen.
Pearls of Wisdom is the
brainchild of founder, CEO Reggie Aldridge, a Toledo native
who started the organization in Atlanta during his time
there. Aldridge is back home now and has brought the
non-profit agency back with him.
The mission of Pearls of
Wisdom is to reduce bullying; to educate kids on the
importance of healthy living; to prevent drug abuse; to
instill confidence; to encourage goal setting; to reduce
school drop-outs and to instill a sense of the importance of
being law abiding citizens.
