"We are so pleased and very grateful for the grant," Savage
said. "Though we have had a nice base of support for the
nearly 50 years of the organization's existence, we always
work hard to attract new donors and sources of support. This
comes at the perfect time. We will use it to help pay bills,
to help keep the doors open and food on the table for those
we serve."
Martin Luther King Kitchen for the Poor was founded in 1969
by Rev. Harvey, Sr., and Martha Savage in response to the
need they saw in the central city. The Kitchen serves up to
200 meals every weekday and is open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Kitchen will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a
Golden Gala April 13, 2019.
