Toledo Community Foundation Announces
Recipients of Buckeye Broadband/Telemundo and TV One
Scholarships
The Board of Trustees of
Toledo Community Foundation, Inc. is pleased to announce
this year’s recipients of the Buckeye Broadband Telemundo
and TV One Scholarships.
Italia Fernandez
(South Toledo) from Toledo Early College High School is the
recipient of a $1,500 Buckeye Broadband/Telemundo
Scholarship. This scholarship provides an annual,
one-time award for graduating high school students of Latino
heritage who are permanent residents of Buckeye Broadband’s
Toledo service area to attend an accredited post-secondary
institution of their choice.
Marrissa Mangus
(North Toledo) from Waite High School is the recipient of a
$1,500 Buckeye Broadband/TV One Scholarship. This
scholarship provides an annual, one-time award for
graduating high school students of African-American heritage
who are permanent residents of Buckeye Broadband’s Toledo
service area to attend an accredited post-secondary
institution of their choice.

Fernandez will attend The University of
Toledo this fall where she plans to study bioengineering.
While in high school, Fernandez participated in Young Women
for Change, Spirit Club, Girls Who Code, Capture the Change,
and was a member of Mock Trial and a Sex Trafficking
Conference, among other activities. Her community and
volunteer experience includes work with Clean Your Streams,
Special Olympics, International Festival, Adelante’s Los
Ninos After School Program and Summer Camp, and Toledo
Northwestern Ohio Food Bank. |

This scholarship was established by Buckeye
Broadband and Telemundo, one of the Spanish-language
networks carried on Buckeye.
Mangus is undecided on her college choice at
this time, but has an interest in focusing her studies on
History and English. Active throughout her high school
years, Mangus was involved in National Honor Society, Toledo
Excel, Student Government and Toledo Youth Leadership. Her
community service activities include volunteering for Food
for Thought and Educare Daycare.
This Scholarship was established by Buckeye
Broadband and TV One, a cable television network targeting
primarily African American adults with a broad range of
lifestyle and entertainment-oriented programming. TV One is
available on Buckeye Broadband’s
digital channel 186 and high-definition channel 680.
Applications for the Buckeye Broadband
Telemundo and TV One Scholarships of the Toledo Community
Foundation are administered online at www.toledocf.org.
Applications for the 2019-2020 academic year will be
available on or about November 1. Scholarship awards are
announced in April.
