Statement Regarding Charlottesville Attacks
Declaration of Independence
"We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are
created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with
certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life,
Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness-That to secure these
Rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their
just Powers from the Consent of the Governed, that whenever
any Form of Government becomes destructive of these Ends it
is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to
institute new Government, laying its Foundation on such
Principles, and organizing its Powers in such Form, as to
them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and
Happiness."
The Ohio Association of Community Action Agencies condemns
the domestic terrorist attacks in Charlottesville that
killed three Americans and left dozens more injured. The
violence stirred by "white supremacists" and neo-Nazi
extremist groups are unacceptable and not what our country
will stand for.
We fully believe that all Americans are created equal and
that our government must stand up to those who threaten our
countrymen. Here in Ohio and throughout this country, as
part of our mission, we stand against discrimination--
racial or other forms. We encourage the President of the
United States to do the same and follow in the footsteps of
our founding fathers and of our Declaration of Independence,
by condemning those who threaten the lives and rights of
American citizens.
