Second Baptist First Annual Toy Giveaway

Second Baptist Church in
Holland held a toy giveaway on Saturday, December 20 and
dozens of families from the community received early
presents for their youngsters. The inaugural event, however,
did not go as planned.
On the night before the
giveaway, thieves broke into the newly-acquired Irwin Center
and made off with nearly 40 toys intended to be part of the
donations. Faced with the prospect of disappointing all
those hopeful youngsters, the members of the congregation
dug into their pockets, put together $500 and headed to
Walmart to replace the pilfered toys.
The toy giveaway is part
of the newly-formed non-profit church organization titled
Agape Second Chance Corporation that will be developing
programs to serve the community.
“Our goal is to be the
heart of this community,” said Regina Whittington, the
non-profit’s executive director. “There is a need here.”
Already Agape Second
Chance has started a tutorial program. On Saturday, guests
were asked to fill out a survey form in order for the board
to properly determine just what the needs of its community
are.
Meanwhile, as for
Saturday’s event, some of the families waited a bit longer
than anticipated for the toys to arrive from Walmart, but no
child left the Center empty-handed or disappointed.
