Rep. Sandra Williams Applauds Governor´s Executive Order
Appointed to Community and Police Relations Task Force
This week, Governor Kasich signed an executive order to
officially create the Ohio Task Force on Community and
Police Relations. Rep. Sandra Williams (D-Cleveland) was
named a member of the Task Force, which will make policy
recommendations that seek to build trust between Ohio
communities and law enforcement.
"Today´s action was a much needed step in the right
direction, and I applaud the efforts of those involved in
the creation of this Task Force," said Rep. Williams. "As a
member of the Task Force, I look forward to developing
strategies that promote positive relationships between the
police and Ohio communities. Preserving the safety of both
police officers and citizens is of the utmost importance,
and I am confident our findings will allow Ohio to mend the
fractured relationship between law enforcement and
communities of color."
The Task Force will host public forums throughout the state
to collect information and identify the concerns of urban,
suburban and rural communities. The Governor has ordered
that a final report comprised of recommendations on how to
improve police-community relations in Ohio be submitted to
his office, the Speaker of the House, President of the
Senate, Chief Justice of the Ohio Supreme Court and the Ohio
Attorney General by April 30, 2015.
